Honors

JCA staff members have received frequent honors:

  • CEO Emeritus David Gamse received the Leadership in Aging Award from Seabury Resources for Aging and an Eminent Graduate Award from the University of South Florida’s Aging Studies Program.
  • Former Senior Director, Heyman Interages Carol Croll and Former Director of the Misler Adult Day Center Elinor Ginzler shared The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington’s Ted B. Farber Professional Excellence Award for their work on the Intergenerational Senior Prom.
  • Assistant CEO Micki Gordon shared The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington’s Ted B. Farber Professional Excellence Award with Lew Fontek of the Jewish Foundation for Group Homes and Tasha Museles from the Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington for their CarJ Vehicle Donations Program.
  • Micki Gordon and Ellen Greenberg, Director of Information & Education at JCA, shared a Caregiver of the Year Award from the John J. Barcklow Foundation.

Each year, we present several awards to outstanding individuals and organizations who are making a difference and serving as role models. The Sylvia & Abe Blajwas Productive Aging Award

Each year since 1994, we have presented The Sylvia & Abe Blajwas Productive Aging Award to shatter limiting stereotypes about aging. This award recognizes an older adult or couple for being a national model of positive aging.

Experience Counts Awards

In 2014, JCA collaborated with the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development and its Workforce Investment Board to launch the Experience Counts Awards, spotlighting the good work of local employers on behalf of older workers.

David Gamse Humanitarian Award

In September 2021, JCA established the David Gamse Humanitarian Award in recognition of CEO emeritus David Gamse’s extraordinary 30-year career of leadership and service to older adults. The award recognizes an individual in the Washington region who demonstrates a passionate commitment to serving older adults combined with tireless advocacy on behalf of older adult issues.
