Connect-A-Ride


Connect-A-Ride is a free service that helps Montgomery County seniors and adults of all ages with disabilities find the transportation they need. Certified Information and Mobility Specialists provide tailored transportation options and help with schedules, benefits, and eligibility requirements.

Connect-A-Ride representatives also provide presentations on transportation options at County senior centers, recreation centers, and libraries, as well as at senior housing facilities. We’re happy to schedule a presentation at your location.

Connect-A-Ride is administered with funding from the Montgomery County Department of Transportation.


Below is a list of some free and for-fee transportation services. The list is not comprehensive. Please contact Connect-A-Ride for further assistance responding to your specific needs.

Free transportation options

  • The Senior Connection – 301-962-0820
  • Villages programs – the villages programs serve specific areas; participants must enroll
  • Disease Associations:
  • Medical Assistance Transportation: provides “last resort” transportation for ambulatory, wheelchair, and stretcher-bound Montgomery County Medicaid recipients who have no other means of transportation available to get to and from medical appointments, or whose medical or physical needs prevent them from using such available transportation.
  • Abilities Ride – service of Metro Access using cab or ride-share. Subsidized or free
  • Ride On (free), Metro rail and Metro bus (half price) with Senior SmarTrip card
  • Senior center shuttle: free curb-to-curb service to designated County senior and recreation centers

Paid transportation options

  •  Call-n-Ride – a subsidized cab program for Montgomery County residents age 63+ and disabled adults with a maximum single-person household income of $44,000. Application required. Contact Connect-A-Ride to learn more. 
  • Private driving companies – Connect-A-Ride regularly updates its list of certified, insured private driving companies serving Montgomery County. These firms provide a variety of services and transport equipment for seniors traveling to medical appointments. Rates vary; subsidies are available for income-eligible clients.   • Escorted – subsidized transportation for qualified County adults who can’t travel alone. Apply: 240-395-0915
  • Metro Access
    • For individuals with difficulty using public transit due to disability living within ¾ mile of Metrobus, Metrorail, or Ride On stop ($2 – $4.50 per ride)
    • Up to 6 weeks to process applications – Connect-A-Ride can help
  • Abilities Ride – service of Metro Access using cab or ride-share. Subsidized or free
  • Ride On (free), Metro rail and Metro bus (half price) with Senior SmarTrip card

 


Travel Training

Connect-A-Ride offers free half-day workshops that help Montgomery County residents aged 50+ get confident and comfortable taking public transportation. Participants learn how to read the Metro map, understand digital schedule signs, load a fare card, and where to find a station’s emergency and accessibility features. The workshops run about three hours and include classroom training, a trip on a Ride On bus, a visit to a Metro station, and a one-station round-trip train ride.
