Upskill - Older Worker Training Programs

If you are over 50 and struggling to understand the digital world or if you want to be more confident with your computer skills, Upskill is designed to help.  This 5-week hands-on program is tailor-made for you. 

Upskill is a program designed for older job seekers. COVID has altered the job market, and older workers have been impacted the most. Employers have increased requirements for skills and experience. In response, JCA is launching the Upskill Program to equip applicants with computer confidence and other necessary skills.

This specially designed training will provide new skills to help older workers make the move into new job functions. Program participants are encouraged to participate in any and all classes to reach their job goals.

computer outlineGain confidence as you are introduced to the hardware and software components that will set the foundation for building your computer skills.  The program will define basic computer concepts and terminology.  Learn to navigate the desktop (or laptop), tabs, windows, toolbars, and taskbars.  Examine the Windows Control Panel to identify settings and customize controls. Explore files and learn to browse, open and rename a file.  

computer outlineLearn how to access assessments, sign up for online training, and complete online job applications. Practice creating new folders, including copying and moving files. Use Microsoft Word to create, edit, and print out a document.  

computer outlineMaster the use of email, including how to open and save email attachments. Explore the internet and learn how to find information. Learn steps you can take to be safe while online. 

computer outlineIn addition to computer skills, the program will include a writing workshop with practical information, tools, and techniques for writing in today’s professional environment. Participants will learn and practice writing that communicates their thoughts for the desired impact. Writing best practices for job-seeking materials, including resumes and cover letters, are also covered.

Intro to Microsoft Microsoft Products
Monday and Wednesday, 9:00 am to 12:30 pm

Intro to Word:  March 25 and 27

Intro to Excel: April 8 and 10

Job Interview Intensive
Learn how to ace the interview and get the job.

Tuesday, April 2 & Wednesday, April 3 from 9:30 to 2:30

Conflict Resolution and Understanding Intergenerational Communication
Conflicts happen, but knowing what to do will set you apart from other job seekers.

Tuesday, April 16 and Wednesday, April 17, 9:30 am to 2:30 pm

Advanced registration is required. Space is limited.
