Montgomery County Council honored JCA Interages REAL program on its second anniversary on July 24th. Staff and volunteers from Interages and partner agencies MoCo DHHS and Montgomery County Public Libraries won praise for their great work. Reading and Educating to Advance Lives (REAL) connects volunteers with children and their parents through literacy and health activities in Department of Health and Human Services waiting rooms. Volunteers read, talk about shapes/letters/numbers/colors, talk about healthy foods, draw and color, do activity sheets, etc. with children who are present. Volunteers also offer free books for children to take home with them. Sites are in Germantown, Rockville, and Silver Spring. Please click on the video below to learn about the program.
