Howard Gleckman, immediate past president of JCA, an Urban Institute Fellow, journalist, and the author of Caring for Our Parents, talks about where seniors now get care, who pays for it, how to plan for care an elder may need, and the importance of family communication. He outlines the many shortcomings of the current patchwork system where unpaid family members bear the burden of caregiving. Howard describes some programs serving older adults and the kinds of services beyond healthcare that would enhance the lives of older adults and reduce healthcare costs.
