For Seniors

Prepared meals because of illness or disability, see meal delivery resources.

If you don’t have a safe way to get food from the supermarket, see grocery delivery resources.

If you cannot pay for all of your food or need someone to deliver food to your home, see food assistance providers who can deliver.

Senior Nutrition Program invites seniors to gather and enjoy their choice of a hot, cold, or vegetarian meal with themed options throughout the month. To find your closest center, reserve your lunch spot, or request transportation, please visit the Congregate Meal Program web page.

Seniors 60 years and older will receive lunch free of charge, although a donation is always welcome. For those under age 60, the full price of the meal is required. Please always register in advance! For more information, call the Senior Programs office at 240-777-4925 or contact the center nearest you.

Service Consolidation Hubs

There are seven Regional Service Consolidation Hubs around Montgomery County that offer free food and home delivery, diapers, basic necessities and connection to other resources. Look for the Hub that serves your zip code.

Food assistance resources from Montgomery County Government:

  • OFSR’s Food Assistance Flowchart: Available in English, Spanish, Amharic, Chinese, French, Korean, and Vietnamese.
  • OFSR Programs: OFSR has a number of programs that would be valuable referral partners, including Nutrition Benefits Outreach and Food as Medicine grantee organizations.
  • FARMS applications: All meals are free for students who qualify for Free and Reduced-price Meals. New enrollments are accepted at any time for families experiencing a change in income.

Food assistance resources from other local and regional partners:

  • Capital Area Food Bank Distributions: Free, weekly distributions for workers impacted by the government shutdown.
  • FRESHFARM: Visit a FRESHFARM market information tent with your SNAP/EBT card or federal ID to receive $30 in FreshMatch to spend on fruits and vegetables.
  • So What Else is providing free weekly food and essentials to federal workers affected by the government shutdown.
  • Instacart: Instacart is offering 50% off groceries (up to $50) for active SNAP customers and launching online food drives for 300 food banks nationwide to support families affected by the potential lapse in SNAP funding.
  • Maryland Market Money: When a SNAP transaction is declined due to “no funds available” or “transaction declined,” market staff may issue $25 per day in MM tokens per household per day. Montgomery County is offering additional support to supplement this emergency benefit at Montgomery County access points.
