Friendly Chat Phone Volunteers Needed

JCA Phone Pal volunteers provide friendly phone companionship in an effort to decrease feelings of social isolation and loneliness. People with early-stage memory loss benefit from this program through one on one communication with another caring individual via the telephone. Brief “friendly conversation” phone calls to the VIP’s (the older adults) are made by the volunteers (the Phone Pals) Sunday through Saturday. This service is vital due to increasing social isolation among the senior population. As we know, social isolation is not limited to Monday to Friday.

The Volunteer, or “Phone Pal,” Job Description:

  • Be comfortable talking on the telephone with older adults.
  • Commit 1-2 times a week for at least 15-20 minutes per call.
  • Currently have or be willing to get a background check.
  • Have the ability to learn and use the volunteer site SignUp.comto sign up for the calls.
