Montgomery County Police Detective Sean Petty will share the latest news on senior fraud in Montgomery County. He and his colleagues from the Financial Crimes Section of the Montgomery County Police Department recently arrested several fraudsters operating a complicated scam involving government imposters selling gold bars. Scammers often target seniors because of their supposed wealth and desire to “do the right thing.” The scammers will pretend to be officials from the FBI, Department of Justice, Treasury Department, Federal Trade Commission or other federal, state or local government agency. The scammers convince people that their bank accounts aren’t safe and should be converted into another commodity, such as gold bars, and handed over for safekeeping.
