JCA Senior Helpline – At Holiday Time and Year-Round

With Thanksgiving approaching, many families are planning to gather and celebrate with a wonderful sense of gratitude for being able to spend quality time with one another.

It is common for these gatherings to alert family members that an older relative is facing a decline in mental or physical health or complaints of struggles with issues such as early memory loss. In these situations, JCA’s Senior Helpline should be one of the first phone calls a concerned family member makes.

JCA’s Information Specialists are here to help. Every day, we assist callers by connecting them with the services they need. Sometimes JCA itself has the appropriate service. If not, the specialists make referrals to other organizations that can best meet their needs. We know that callers often come with a variety of concerns.

Common inquiries are about:

  • Respite for caregivers of a loved one with early memory loss or other impairments
  • How to make age-friendly adjustments to homes
  • Referrals for geriatric care assessments and management and/or elder law attorneys
  • In-home medical support including doctors who make house calls and vaccinations for seniors who are homebound
  • Assistance with grocery shopping
  • How to acquire durable medical equipment
  • Help with technology
  • Affordable housing alternatives

No matter the issue, callers to JCA’s Senior Helpline, will find a caring voice and a wealth of helpful information. JCA is a trustworthy source of referrals to available resources in the Greater Washington Area including Montgomery County, Northern Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
