Montgomery County MD Read Across America Feb. 2-6

Montgomery County Public Libraries is collaborating with the Jewish Council for the Aging (JCA) Heyman Interages Center for Read Across America Week, which this year is from March 2nd to 7th, 2025.

The JCA and MCPL invite families with children of all ages to join us to share in their love of books. Events for this year’s Read Across America:

  • March 2, 10:30 a.m.-noon, Gaithersburg Library, Read together
    Families with children of all ages are invited to share in their love of books by reading pieces from their favorite children’s stories. Readers will be selected on a first-come-first-served basis to share and read out loud to their fellow attendees. Participants may bring their own book or select one from the library. Stories shared should be at a reading level appropriate for Preschool through 3rd Grade listeners.
  • March 2, 12:30-2 p.m., Brigadier General Charles E. McGee Library, One-on-one reading
    Celebrate a love of literacy by reading one-on-one with previously selected JCA Interages volunteers and children ages from Kindergarten through third grade. Children can bring their own book or select one from the library. JCA volunteers are preselected and vetted and also trained by JCA staff in communication and intergenerational interactions.
  • March 3, 4-5:30 p.m., Wheaton Library, One-on-one reading
    Celebrate a love of literacy by reading one-on-one with previously selected JCA Interages volunteers and children ages from Kindergarten through third grade. Children can bring their own book or select one from the library. JCA volunteers are preselected and vetted and also trained by JCA staff in communication and intergenerational interactions.
