Many older adults experience a fear of falling. People who develop this fear often limit their activities, which can result in physical weakness, making the risk of falling even greater. A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls is a program designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. The Virtual Matter of Balance falls prevention program is an evidence-based cognitive restructuring program that meets for 2 hours a week for 9 weeks. We focus on how we view falling, our fears of falling, strategies for preventing a fall and invite participation in gentle exercises.

During the class, participants learn to:

  • View falls as controllable

  • Set goals for increasing activity

  • Make changes to reduce fall risk at home

  • Exercise to increase strength and balance

Time & Location: Sep 05, 2024, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM EDT

The Matter of Balance program meets once a week for 9 weeks every Thursday from 10am to 12pm from Thursday, September 5 to Thursday, October 31, 2024.

There is a class minimum of 8 and maximum of 12.  Once the minimum is met, a Zoom link will be sent to all registrants.  Once the maximum is met, we will create a waitlist.
