JCA Volunteer Appreciation
On June 2, JCA held the 2024 Volunteer Appreciation event. The gathering and ceremony celebrated the many volunteers that help make JCA’s programs second to none. Volunteers provide expertise, support staff, and provide the personal touch participants have come to expect. Award winners are profiled below.

JCA Holds Its First Howard County 50+ Virtual Employment Expo
Thursday, May 30, 2024, was JCA’s first Virtual 50+ Employment Expo for the Howard County (HoCo) Government. Specifically, it was Ofelia Ross Ott, Administrator, The Office on Aging and Independence (OAI), who asked JCA to put the employment expo together. This request included creating a new website for the employment expo. The HoCo Employment Expo website includes:
It was a team effort to get the word out to HoCo jobseekers and employers. The OAI, HoCo Office of Workforce Development, Columbia, MD, Workforce Center, and HoCo Economic Development Authority helped reach older workers and employers in Howard County. Just over six hundred jobseekers registered to attend the Expo and fifteen Howard County employers participated in this Expo.
The event’s resounding success was a testament to the hard work and dedication of all involved. We were overjoyed to receive such positive feedback from employers and jobseekers, and we eagerly anticipate the news of successful job placements. JCA is deeply grateful for the opportunity to organize this significant event and looks forward to more such collaborations in the future.
This past month the JCA blog, Information for the Sandwich Generation, shared the latest Senior Resources Guide which explained the importance of oral health. Some of the more heartbreaking aspects of Alzheimer’s caregiving were outlined while the health benefits of sensory gardens were enumerated. Our immediate past president, Howard Gleckman, cleared up some of the misunderstandings of pre-diabetes, and budding entrepreneurs are encouraged with pointers for the 50+ crowd. If you are a caregiver for an older adult, or you know one, check out the KC Blog as well.
