Heyman Interages® and Montgomery County Libraries
Team Up for Read Across America
Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) will host Read Across America for kids in kindergarten through third grade. The program will match children with volunteers from the Heyman Interages program, who will serve as reading partners, the
county said. “Instilling a love for reading in our young people is one of the most important things we can do to in providing great educations for our upcoming generations,” said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich.

SCSEP Graduate Tapped for Additional Role
SCSEP (Senior Community Service Employment Program) graduate, Vivian Ramirez, works at Catholic Charities as a Receptionist. When one of Catholic Charities’ teachers could not make class on Saturday, they asked Vivian to step in. Vivian and her daughter Nicole took the reins and taught English to our Spanish speaking jobseekers. Vivian and Nicole did an outstanding job!
Leadership Montgomery Encore Program Accepting Applications for 24/25
The Encore program (formerly Senior Leadership Montgomery) is for those recently retired or soon-to-be-retired from full-time employment. This program will help participants discover their post-professional leadership purpose.
The program benefits recent retirees in several ways:

OMA Art Show
The community is invited to the OMA Art Show on Friday, March 8, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. at JCA’s main building. OMA, Opening Minds through Art, is an award-winning, evidence-based, intergenerational art making program that aims to provide social engagement and creative expression for persons living with memory loss. This joint program with Interages volunteers and Kensington Clubs participants, produces beautiful art pieces,
friendships, and thoughtful artistic expression. RSVP by February 29.
JCA is Looking For Focus Group Participants
Do you have great ideas for improving JCA programs and services? Would you like to give feedback on your experience with JCA? Are there services for older adults you would like to see at JCA? You can participate in an upcoming focus group that will help make JCA better and more innovative. Please respond with your contact information and we will let you know how you can get involved.
Upskill Classes for Jobseekers
The Upskill program continues to equip applicants with computer confidence and other necessary skills. This specially designed training helps older workers make the move into new job functions. In addition to computer skills, the program includes a writing workshop that includes resumes and cover letters, and soft skills like interviewing and conflict resolution.

This past month the JCA blog, Information for the Sandwich Generation, shared job hunting strategies for older adults. Estate planning guidance detailed how to convert physical stock certificates to a digital record. We explained the “un-retire” movement of former retirees going back to work. And an article from NCOA outlined several strength-building exercise to prevent falls.
50+ Virtual Employment Expos
Jobseekers and employers – have you registered for the 50+ Virtual Employment Expo? The next JCA Montgomery County, MD, Expo is March 19, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. The morning session will feature a presentation entitled Time to Go Solo? Learn the ABCs of Self-Employment. In the afternoon, hear from area employers.
Jobseekers and employers, register today! We are always looking for new employers (Federal/State/County/Local governments and for profit and nonprofit businesses) to participate. Upcoming Expo Dates for Montgomery County, MD are March 19, May 14, and June 18. The Northern Virginia Expo will take place on April 14. Employers with at least three professional openings can register to participate. Registration for jobseekers and employers is complimentary.
